Having a business that no-one knows about is useless. The old philosophical question… If a tree falls in the woods but no-one hears it, does it make a sound? Similarly, if you have a business, and nobody knows it’s there, is it really a business? The answer is less philosophical… No. Hence the importance of business networking.
Here at Surge, we are moving in to our second year doing business and we have learned a lot in a very short spell of time. One of the things we have learned is the importance of business networking. We are proud members of Derg Business Alliance, Supply Network Shannon and Limerick Chamber of Commerce. Our experience with each has been extremely productive, positive and fun.
Business Networking takes Time and Commitment
They do however, take time and commitment. This is often the first hurdle that a lot of businesses fall down at. You need to know in advance if you have the time to commit to these groups. A lot of businesses join because they are going through a quiet spell and have spare time. They are then unprepared for surges in business and the first thing that suffers is their business group membership.
A general rule of thumb is- you get out of them what you put into them. So if you put in time and effort and get involved with projects, you will be rewarded in kind. Not just with referral work, but with training events, fresh ideas, problem-solving, ways to save money and more. All of this is done in a friendly environment amongst people who share your passion for business.
You will get your business out in front of people who will have your services in mind as they go about their daily activities and this will help you to sow the seeds for productive business relationships in the future.
If you would like to talk more about business networking, please feel free to drop us an email. If you are looking for a network to join, then we can easily recommend the Derg Business Alliance if you are a business, Supply Network Shannon if you are a manufacturer/ distributor, and/ or Limerick Chamber of Commerce.
